FAQ
Questions parents ask us — answered honestly
These are the real questions we hear on the phone, most weeks. If yours is not here, call us: +91 70225 30530. We would rather answer than guess.
First steps & assessment
How do I know if my child needs help — or if I’m worrying too much?
Honestly? Worrying is normal, and you are not alone. The useful question is not “is something wrong” — it is “is it worth having someone look”. A consultation can answer that, and a fuller assessment answers it in depth: what is happening, what is simply a phase, and what could use a hand. Most parents leave relieved either way.
What happens at the first visit?
You talk, your child plays, and a qualified clinician watches how your child moves, listens, learns and communicates. You will not be left in a waiting room wondering. You will leave with a plain-language picture of your child and a clear next step — what happens next, and why.
Do I need a referral from a doctor?
No. You can call us directly and book. If a doctor or teacher has already suggested therapy, that is fine too — bring along any reports or notes you have, and tell us what they said.
How do I prepare my child for the first visit?
Don’t rehearse anything. Come as you are. It helps if your child is not hungry or overtired, and it helps if you arrive a few minutes early so there is no rush. Tell your child, in a light way, that you are going somewhere with toys where someone will play with them. That is honestly all the preparation needed.
What if my child cries, clings, or won’t cooperate?
Then that is useful information too — and our therapists are used to it. No child is ever forced, coaxed beyond comfort, or judged. The first visit can simply be about you and the therapist talking while your child warms up. Some of our best assessments happen with a child on a parent’s lap.
Is the assessment really necessary? Can’t we just start sessions?
We understand why it feels like a delay. But therapy works when it is aimed at the right thing, and guessing wastes your time and money. Sometimes a consultation is enough to give you a direction; sometimes a fuller evaluation is what’s needed. Either way, it is one step, and it is the difference between a plan and a hope.
Progress & duration
How long will my child need therapy?
Every honest answer begins with: it depends on the child. We can usually talk in terms of weeks and months, not years — and not in days. What we promise is not a timeline but a process: we set clear goals, we review progress about every four months, and you will always know where things stand. Anyone who promises you a fixed date for a child’s development is guessing.
How often will sessions be?
After the assessment, we will recommend a frequency — for most families, one or two sessions a week to start, but the plan follows your child, not a template, and we will talk it through with you before anything begins.
How will I know it’s working?
You will see it, and we will show it. We set goals in plain language at the start, review them about every four months, and tell you what to watch for at home. In short: we will agree what to look at, and when to review it.
What if I don’t see progress?
Say so. That is exactly what reviews are for. Sometimes the plan needs adjusting, sometimes the frequency does, and sometimes progress is happening in a place you have not been shown yet. What we will never do is ignore the question. If we honestly cannot help your child, we will tell you and help you find who can.
Money
How much does it cost?
Sessions start at ₹900. From there, the rate depends on the therapist’s experience and seniority — and we’ll tell you plainly before you start. A consultation is ₹1,000 (₹1,500 with a senior clinician), and a detailed evaluation starts at ₹2,000. The full picture is on our Fees page.
Why do I have to pay for the consultation or assessment?
Because it is real work by a real clinician. A consultation is a genuine appointment; a detailed evaluation is more again. Ours ends with a plain-language picture and a written plan, whether or not you continue with us.
What’s included in the fee — and what isn’t?
You will always hear the full cost of what is recommended before it starts. If anything carries a separate charge — evaluations, materials, a programme, or formal school liaison — the price comes with the suggestion, in the same conversation, never later.
What if we have to miss a session?
Please give us at least four hours’ notice. We can arrange a compensatory session — a maximum of three per month, on another day, not necessarily with the same therapist, and with no same-day guarantee. Missed sessions without notice are generally not followed up with another slot.
How does payment work?
Advance payment for the coming month, due by the 5th. Between the 1st and the 5th we adjust invoices for holidays you’ve told us about in advance. There’s a 15-day limit on planned absences; beyond that, sessions aren’t held or adjusted. Payment is mostly by UPI.
Play-based therapy
Is it really therapy? He’s just playing.
We know exactly how it looks — and that is the point. Play is how children learn to talk, to move, to pay attention and to cope. The difference at our centre is what happens inside the play: the games and toys are chosen by a therapist working towards goals we have set with you. The child sees fun. You will see the plan.
He plays fine at home. How is this different?
At home, play just happens. In a session, the therapist shapes it — choosing activities that are appropriate for your child’s current level, again and again, in a way that feels like a game. That gentle, skilful repetition is where the progress comes from.
Parents’ role
Do I sit in the session or wait outside?
You are welcome either way, and we will talk it through after the assessment. Many parents stay for at least part of the session — watching a therapist work with your child teaches you more than any book. Some children do their best work without a parent in the room. There is no wrong choice.
What is expected of me between sessions?
The most powerful part of therapy happens at home — a few minutes a day, the way your therapist shows you. You will never be handed a homework list and abandoned. We keep it small enough to fit real life, because we know real life is where progress sticks.
Is there a WhatsApp channel for parents?
Yes. It is invite-only, run by the centre, and it’s for education, not gossip: useful, practical posts. Members cannot see each other’s contact details, and you can leave at any time. There’s no set schedule of messages — we post when there’s something worth your time. Ask us at your centre, or read more on the parents’ page.
Practical
What are your timings? We both work till late.
Our centres run one shift: Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 6:30 pm, and Saturday 9:00 am to 1:30 pm. School-age sessions cluster between 3:00 and 6:30 pm — that is when the centre is fullest, because that is when most families need it. Mornings are quieter, and often easier to book. Tell us what your day looks like and we will work around it.
Which centre should we go to?
Usually the one closer to you. We are in Kalyan Nagar (HRBR Layout) and in Dr. Shivarama Karanth Nagar (serving Jakkur and Thanisandra). Both run to the same standard, but the services differ slightly — Psychology & Behavioural Support is at Kalyan Nagar only, for example. If you are unsure which is nearer, call us with your area and we will tell you.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes — Online Therapy is live at both centres. In India it’s charged at the same rate as in-person; for families abroad there’s a small difference. We’ll talk through whether it suits your child’s needs at your first conversation. See Online Therapy.
Where do we start?
One call. +91 70225 30530 — Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 6:30 pm, Saturday 9:00 am to 1:30 pm — or message us on WhatsApp. That is all it takes.
Still have a question?
If your question isn’t here, that’s a gap in this page, not a gap in your judgement. Call us and we’ll answer it.
